From
Westcoast Flyfishers Association
of Sooke, British Columbia, Canada.
To
all members & friends of Westcoast Flyfishers
Association,
In
case you missed it in the” Victoria Times Colonist” & “The
News Sooke Mirror” my very good friend and fishing
buddy Patrick Doherty died last
weekend of a heart attack at Fairy Lake in Port Renfrew.
I,
and Westcoast Flyfishers Association will miss
Pat, he and his Company "Island Scaffold
Services" supported our Association from “ Day
One”, donating items for prizes at our initial
start up meeting, a Barbeque for our first raffle to
raise funds for Sooke Salmon Enhancement Society, and
recently donated $750 to the Westcoast Flyfishers Association
Youth Fly Fishing Camp 2006 to help with it's success
for 20 youth.
I
will forever miss Patrick Doherty my
little Irish friend ,I got him restarted in fly fishing
and we started fishing together several years ago starting
with "The Pinks" (Pink Salmon) up at Oyster
River when we visited Ed & Barb Boulter ,
Pat
always liked sitting around the fire and relating to
fishing tales of when he was a younger man fly fishing back
in Ireland, his family and their achievements and lots
of other stories .
I
enjoyed his friendship and tales, I could relate
to some of the tales being from New Zealand another
country like he was and who had adopted Vancouver Island,
British Columbia & Canada as our home.
Thank
you and Good Bye Patrick Doherty my Friend
Garry
Bettridge
President of Westcoast Flyfishers Association.
